It’s basically a little oasis along 6th street where patrons can get away from the noise and commotion for a time. Great intimate setting with seductive cocktails for a special date, or a celebratory night out with a small group. One of the most unique bars/clubs to make this list of 19 hidden gems in Austin has to be the Midnight Cowboy. The bartenders here play the speakeasy part well-they’re into their craft, know their 1920s liquors, and exude a slight bootlegger persona. While there’s no food served at this bar, it’s surrounded by many great dining options. This 24/7 diner is the ideal place for Southern breakfast, any time of the day or night. On one night, you might encounter the Open Sesame (Japanese whiskey, Galliano, five spice, and sesame) or the Oaxacan Negroni (mezcal, Gran Classico aperitif, ginger beer, and a whole egg) on another, you might be in for the Millennial (genever, Cocchi Americano, crème de cacao, lemon, egg white, and spiced vanilla bitters). If you find yourself peckish on a late night in Austin, make your way to the original Magnolia Cafe on Lake Austin Boulevard. House cocktails are beautifully garnished and are elegant continuations of the spirit forward modern cocktail movement. On the west edge is an actual hostel where a few Spiceheads have stayed. Come dressed nicer than you would for a dive, honky tonk-or most of 6th Street’s bars, for that matter. This Eastside bar opened softly in 2022, and it’s still semi-secret. Trust us, it’s well worth it: the tufted-leather booth, original ceiling, and expertly crafted Prohibition Era cocktails are deserving of the effort.Įxclusivity inspires patrons at this bar to dress the part.
